A Remix Manifesto

This week watching, A Remix Manifesto, I had a personal connection to it. The debate on whether you are stealing someone's music or making something of your own is something that is discussed with my parents a lot. Growing up, both of my parents worked in the music business. My mom has worked for the biggest Hip-Hop and Pop record labels in the United States and my father has worked for many different radio stations all across the country. In my mother's line of work, this discussion comes up often. Working for Atlantic Records, the biggest names in Hip-Hop are signed to this label and my mom runs the whole midwest. Choosing which songs she thinks will be the number one hit off of the artist's albums. When an artist decides to drop an album, their is many things that come into factor and one huge thing is whether this artist is stealing someones beats or has a lot of the same lyrics because that can back fire not only on the artist but the record label as a whole. Stealing or No?

One of the biggest cases in 2006 was the lawsuit when Rick Ross sued LMFAO group . Rick Ross made a song in 2006, "Hustlin" and LMFAO made "Party Rock Anthem". Rick Ross decided to sue based on his song lyrics "everyday I'm hustlin''" compared to LMFAO lyrics "everyday I'm shufflin'" The Florida judge claimed that the change in words was not stealing at all. This often happens with artists if they don't contact another artist about either sampling their music or similarity in lyrics. The internet nowadays is filled with mashups and recreating videos, music and pictures. It goes back in forth often whether it is aloud to be used our not based on the creative commons law. All the friends people have on Facebook, around ten of them actually have an impact on your life. This statement really impacted me. Never have a really thought about that but compared to my life, I have 2,702 Facebook friends and I completely agree with this statement. Being a kid you want to friend people you know and have heard of but I probably have 15 friends on Facebook that I really care about that know what is really going on in my life. The three tier are core, operational, and outer network. I see myself as the operational. I am someone that likes to make my own decisions and have creative control . Being creative is a strong suite for based on me wanting to always come up new ideas and styles. I like to have freedom over my ideas and work but like to get constructional feedback. I own all rights to these photos   The people that are my core people in my life out of the thousands people I claim are my "friends"

5 Stages

In my own life, this reminds me of the time when I was sophomore in high school. Growing up, I had the dream of being a volleyball and basketball player. Basketball was more of my strong suit and my sophomore year I tried out for the team. The first day I went to normal tryouts for the sophomore team but by the end of the day I was asked to go upstairs with varsity. I was the only one moved around into certain groups to see where my place was just like when Tickman talks about forming. The coach was trying to figure out where my role was on the team. I ended up making the varsity team.  It was nerve racking being with all juniors and seniors based on not knowing a lot of them very well at first. I felt the need to prove myself at every opportunity to show that I deserved to really be there. I ended up finding my place as a power forward based on
